This handsome guy’s name is Poquito, which means “little bit” in Spanish. He’s a 2 year old, 7lb. Chihuahua who came to our rescue from a city kennel where he had difficulty finding his forever home because of his fearful behavior. At the shelter, he was very bonded with the female warden and would growl and hide if anyone came to visit him. The shelter felt he needed more socialization than they could provide, so they contacted our rescue.
Since coming into foster care, he has shown that he bonds very quickly to the female in the home, and then has difficulty warming up to anyone else. Most likely, his previous owners did not socialize him properly as a puppy, or bother to correct or redirect his unwanted behavior. His foster parents are trying to improve his social skills, and he’s already shown some improvement, but it will take time and patience.
Despite his social shortcomings, Poquito is a good little dog. Once he warms up to you, he’s very affectionate! He loves to be snuggled and petted, and he will give you gentle kisses in return. His good looks and charming personality have completely won over his foster mom, and she thinks he’s smart little guy with a lot of potential! He just needs an understanding and committed forever family to help him become the trusting, happy dog she knows he can be!
Poquito gets along great with cats, but can be picky about his canine friends. He would prefer a new home with a low-key, submissive dog that’s willing to share both their couch AND their human with him!!!
Poquito needs to go to a home with no small children.
This pet is crate trained, housebroken, neutered, UTD on vaccines, on flea and heartworm preventative, microchipped and de-wormed. His adoption fee is $200.00
